Week of September 26, 2016 Announcements



Wednesday, September 28th
School is Closed 
Archdiocesan Teacher Conference Day 

Income Survey 2016
An income survey form will be sent home with your child on Monday.
Please have it returned with your child by               Friday the 30th.  
As an example the Title I Summer Program offered this last summer was funded from the reports received last year.
If a parent needs assistance Alba, Alan or Roberto will be able to help them.

Candy Bars 
Candy Bars are available in the tuition office to assist parents in their fund raising requirement.
Parents are requested to send the money for the candy bars to Smart Tuition. 
Candy Bars may be picked up in the morning, after school and on Sundays from                            9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Candy Bars will only be available until October 30th



Cornerstone now called Educate 
Educate is the Student Information System wherein student grades are entered by teachers. Parent access enables parents to see weekly progress on exit tickets, tests, homework, classwork etc.
The grade book and therefore the report card this year will be very different from prior years. The report card will reflect the numerical grade along with a list of standards that were worked on by the teacher during that quarter.
The overall grade will be number and the standards will be using a rubric score of 1-4.  For the first quarter the standard rubric score will reflect the exit ticket used by teachers at the end of a class.
Parent access to Educate will be available this week from Alan in the office. Parents may call him at 212-567-3190 or see him in the office before 3:00 PM. Parents may also send an email to Mr. Woods at olqm1@aol.com and it will be forwarded to Alan.



Sacramental Program begins Sunday October 2nd
Students who have been enrolled in the sacramental program for Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation are required to attend the 1:00 PM Mass on Sundays with Mr. Woods.
Parents may also sign up their child on Sunday October 2nd from                                   9:00 AM - 12:00 noon in the office.

PreK For All Coach will be working with teachers and students today in the classrooms.

Tuesday, September 27, 2016  Feast of St. Vincent de Paul
A reminder to parents that up to date immunization records are due by the end of September. Alba will be calling parents in PreK-1, PreK -2 and Kindergarten.
Roberto or Alan will be calling parents in PreK-3, PreK-4 and PreK-5.
The Health Department will be checking records sometime in October and they can request that a child not return to school until the immunizations are up to date.

Students in sacramental program attend Mass with Mr. Woods at 1:00 PM.
Students must sit up in the front near the organ with the class.

Week of September 19, 2016 Announcements


Picture Day Envelope
Picture Day will be Monday, October 3rd.  Parents who wish to have their child's picture taken should return the envelope to Mrs. Resto in the tuition office before October 3rd.
Students are to wear DRESS UP clothes for picture day - no jeans, teddy bears or other paraphernalia. Students may also wear their school uniform.

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Extended Day classes in ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics will assist students in maximizing their academic potential using on-line programs such as  Classroom Inc., Achieve 3000, IXL and iReady along with regular classroom review.
Students will be assessed weekly and their progress will be posted on the Educate Student Information System

After School Program
Parents may register their child(ren) in the after school program in the office.  Payment for the first month is due with registration. Students who are in the After School Program will be entered into Smart Tuition and parents should pay Smart Tuition as stated on the statement they will receive.
Please see Mrs. Ramsey if you have questions.

New York State Test Results Grades 4-8 
The parent report for the New York State Tests that were administered last spring will be sent home with your child on Monday.
Should parents have questions about the results please see your child's teacher or see Mr. Woods on Sunday September 18th from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

As a reminder students should have all their school supplies in by Monday September 12th.

Morning and Afternoon Prayers begin                                           Monday September 12th
As mentioned by Mr. Woods at the opening meeting students in grades 1-8 will meet daily in Church at the beginning of the day and at the end of the days for community prayers.
Students who arrive after 8:00 AM should meet the class in Church. Students lin grades 1-8 will also be dismissed from Church at 3:00 PM.

Welcome to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School

Welcome Back to those students who are returning and welcome to all new students beginning school at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.

This blog will contain all the weekly notices and is usually published Sunday afternoons.  This is done because many times scheduled items on the monthly or yearly calendar may need to be changed. An IRIS message will be sent indicating that the blog has been posted for parent and student review.

    Ms. Saville's homeroom will be grade 2 and         Mrs. Bagley's will be grade 3.
Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia will be involved in a Blended Learning Program launched by the Archdiocese of New York this summer.

Mr. Roberto Guzman will be the new Administrative Assistant for Mr. Woods and will be replacing Alan who will departing from OLQM at  the end of November.

Thursday September 8th
First Day of School- student may wear summer uniform - shorts etc. since it will be hot in some of the classrooms.
Early Drop off begins at 7:00 AM
School Begins at 8:00 AM
Dismissal at 3:00 PM
Students in grades 1-8 line up in backyard. Parents may process up to classrooms with their child ONLY today.
Breakfast & Lunch Program begin
