Week of October 19, 2020 Announcements
All public and non-public Pre-K to Grade 12 schools must ensure that all students are up to date with all mandatory school vaccinations, regardless whether they are attending school in-person, via remote learning, or a hybrid model.
• Public Health Law § 2164 requires each Pre-K through Grade 12 student to satisfy certain vaccination requirements as a condition of attending school. These requirements are listed in the 2020-21 School Year New York State Immunization Requirements for School Entrance/Attendance.
• The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) is the entity charged with enforcement the requirement that schools comply with Public Health Law § 2164.
• NYS DOH finds there has been difficulty in obtaining required vaccinations as a result of the COVID19 pandemic, resulting in inability for some students to meet the vaccination requirements.
• NYS DOH is therefore suspending enforcement of required vaccinations for students to attend school for a period of 30 days, only for students attending school exclusively remotely, if such student intends to obtain the required vaccinations in the coming 30 days.
• For students using remote learning exclusively, if a school does not receive proof of all required vaccinations by 30 days from the date of this letter, the school shall not permit the student to attend, including through remote learning, until such proof has been received.

National I Love Lucy Day – October 15, 2020
The following update to the Parent Student Handbook was issued by the Superintendent of Schools Office on Thursday October 8, 2020.
During the time
that schools are governed under the Moving Forward Together document and schools
are participating in remote learning, students who are absent due to illness
may participate in the entire school day via remote learning.
•
If a
student remains home due to illness and is able to participate via remote
learning for the entire school day, parents must write to the school informing
the principal that the student is ill but will be participating remotely. The note from the parent must be sent prior
to the start of the school day.
•
The student
will be marked present (remote) if the student participates remotely for the
entire school day.
•
If the
student is unable to participate for the entire school day, the student will be
marked absent.
• This remote option is not available for
students who are not attending school due to an unexcused absence.

Tuesday October 6, 2020 -- National Mad Hatter Day. The date for the holiday was chosen because of how John Tenniel illustrated the Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. The English illustrator who was also a political cartoonist depicted the Hatter wearing a hat with a piece of paper that has 10/6 written on it. The 10/6 refers to the cost of a hat – 10 shillings and 6 pence. The creators of the holiday who are from the United States where the date is written in the month/day (mm/dd) format took this to set the date for the holiday on October 6 (10/6).
Students may wear their version of a Mad Hatter to class- in person or remote.
