Week of October 26, 2015 Announcements
New York State ELA and Mathematics Parent Reports
The parent reports will be distributed to students in grades 4-8 on Monday. There is a complete description of your child's strengths and weakness on the test that was administered last Spring. If parents have questions please feel free to see the classroom teacher or Mr. Woods.
Income Survey Forms
Income Survey forms have been or will be distributed by the classroom teacher on Monday. This form enables us to continue to fight for more money for textbooks and technology. Please return the form to your child's teacher as soon as possible. The form says September 16th but was just made available and is due October 30th.
Superintendent's Newsletter
A Superintendent's newsletter will be sent home on Monday with your child. Please read it carefully as it discuss the educational objectives of The Superintendent of Schools office.
New York City Board of Health
All newly enrolled students at OLQM are required to have, in the school office, a physical exam with up to date immunizations posted on the form. The New York City Department of Health was here on Thursday for a review of the physical plant. In 3 weeks the inspector will be back to review records of students and staff. If your child does not have the physical exam on file they may be excluded from class until it is completed and in their file. A few years ago a number of students were excluded from class and parents were upset as they had to take off from work to have the physical done with their child and the immunizations updated.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports were distributed by Fr. Antonio on Thursday. The report is on bright orange paper in case your are looking in your child's book bag. All children received a report. Please remember that report cards will be distributed on Friday November 20th between the hours of 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
New Board of Trustees
Mr. Woods met with the new director for the Board of Trustees for the Manhattan Regionalized Schools on Friday. In the next few weeks members from the board of trustees will be visiting classrooms and meeting with teachers. At one point in the year they plan on also meeting with a group of parents. Mr. Woods will keep you abreast of their visits.
Halloween 2015
As a reminder to parents that schools in the United States have a no violence policy in regards to children having toy guns etc.
Students therefore should not have Halloween costumes that reflect violent modes of thinking.
There should be no guns, swords etc. brought to school or be part of their costume.
The teachers will ask the student to hand in the gun or sword or whatever other reflection of violence that may be displayed to be picked up by you their parent.
