Open Letter to Parents - Positive COVID Case

Dear Parents of Students in Ms. Waseem’s Class

Your child has been identified as having had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.  We learned today that their last day of exposure was Friday April 4/29.  Whether your child will need to stay home and for how long depends on which category they fall into:

1.       If your child had COVID in the last 90 days and is asymptomatic, they may continue attending school uninterrupted.

·         Make sure your school has proof of the lab-confirmed positive test.

·         Monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19 for a full 14 days. If they develop symptoms, have them tested with an antigen test (do not get a PCR test).

·         You are not required to test your child unless they develop symptoms.

2.       If your child hasn’t recently had a lab-confirmed case of COVID, they can’t attend school and must quarantine until at least Thursday 5/5.

    • With one negative COVID-19 test from a health care provider on Day 5 OR two negative home test results from Day 4 and Day 5, your child can return to school on day 6.

·         The dates the COVID-19 tests should be taken are as follows:

 ·         If you choose to use home tests, you must label each test with your child’s initials and the date and immediately take photos of the test results.

·         Your child may NOT attend school or school-based activities while they are quarantining or return if their test results are still pending.

All parents should monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 for a full 14 days regardless of when they return to school.  If they develop symptoms, have them tested immediately.

While we have all been diligent in fighting the spread of the virus, COVID-19 is still active in our communities. Vaccination, monitoring for symptoms, staying home when sick, practicing social distancing, washing hands, and wearing well-fitting masks (surgical masks, double masking, KN 95, and N95) are critical steps you can take to continue to protect your child, yourself and our community. Let us continue to entrust our students to Our Lady as we all pray for an end to this pandemic.

 Sincerely,

 Andrew G. Woods
