All parents need to do is to go online to http://www.olqmnyc.blogspot.com/ and then click on their child’s teacher’s name on the right side of the screen. On the blog will be listed daily homework, tests, assignments etc. along with the material that is being covered for the week in the classroom. For those parents who do not have access to a computer Mr. Marcial will be in the computer room each day from 7:45 AM – 8:00AM to assist parents in reviewing the school blog.
After School Program
As explained in the mailing that went out in August the After School Program will now become an extension of the academic program of the school. The After School Program will run from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and will offer as part of the program homework assistance, tutoring, availability of computer classes and art classes. Parents who are interested may enroll in the school office with Alba and/or Mr. Marcial.

Parent/Student Handbook
Parents are reminded that the 2008/2009 Parent signature pages are due on September 12th. They are the Parent Signature Page; the Phot/Video Release page; the Internet Usage page; the Parent’s Pledge and the Academic Contact.

Dismissal of PreK & Kindergarten Classes

PreK-1
– Mrs. Fundora’s class will dismiss from the bottom floor of the school near the offices.
PreK-2- Ms. Payano’s class will dismiss from her classroom. Parents/grandparents/babysitter are to enter through the Church’s stairs and go to the classroom to sign them out.
PreK-3 Ms. Vargas' class will dismiss from her classroom. Kindergarten – will also dismiss from the classroom.

Children who attend the After School Program will be picked up from the class by a staff member of the After School Program

Emergency Cards
Parents will receive 2 emergency cards to fill out with information for us to reach you or a friend/relative in the event of an emergency. All children should know by memory their home telephone number and a number to reach you. If your telephone number changes please call the office and let Alba know along with your child’s teacher.

Sacramental Program
Registration for Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation will be on Sunday September 21st and September 28th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Further information will be sent home.

Breakfast & Lunch Program
The Breakfast and Lunch Program will begin Monday September 8th. Forms will be sent home by the staff of the lunchroom. If the form is not returned your child may be denied lunch. Breakfast begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 7:45 AM with line up in the backyard of the school. Research again and again has shown that children do better academically if they have breakfast. Please get your child to school early so that breakfast will have time to digest before school begins. Many a child has vomited because the parent is rushing the child to school, rushing breakfast down their throat and the stress has caused the food to erupt right back out of the child’s throat.

After School Program 2008

After School Program Registration
Hours of Operation
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

The after School Program for the 2008-2009 school year will begin on Monday, September 8th and registrations are currently being accepted in the school office.

Program Information
This program is open to children in Grades Pre-K through 8th grade that attend Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School. The program will be held Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and will include holidays such as Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day. On early release days the program will be in session from the onset of
dismissal until 7:00 PM.
The monthly calendar that is distributed each month will indicate days that the program may not be available.
Prior to the start of each program day there will be an attendance call followed by a snack. Parents may provide a snack if their child is a picky eater. Then there will be quiet time for the children to complete daily homework. Tutoring opportunities are also available free of charge for anyone interested. A note sent to Mr. Woods or a call to the office will make sure that tutoring is made available. This may happen at any time of the year and a parent should feel free to call the office after they have noticed a decline in academic performance. Homeroom/Departmental teachers will also make recommendations to Mr. Woods regarding tutoring.

Payment Information
The monthly fee for one child is $135.00 which is based on $33.75/week.
The monthly fee for two children is $240.00 per day.
Those parents only wishing to participate in the after school program on early dismissal days whether it is at 11:30 AM or 2:30 PM the fee for the daily rate is $20.00 per day per child.
All payments are to be made in the school tuition office and will be recorded on the school’s regular tuition card. Parents will be charged a late fee whenever they are late in picking up their child, as we need to pay the staff members who are required to work late. Anyone who is 5-10 minutes late will be charged $5.00; then $1.00 per minute after that.

Program Rules
Since the program is an extension of the school all rules of behavior, deportment and respect for each other are clearly delineated in the Parents Handbook of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School.
