Parents Welcome to Attend

Kitchen Update
On November 26th the NYFD was here to inspect the school kitchen and the new venting system. We received a Letter of Approval to move forward.
Con Edison was notified and we are awaiting a date for the gas
to be turned on for the kitchen stoves.
Please remember to thank Fr. Cruz for his persistent involvement in making sure this is resolved so that we may serve hot lunch.

Flu Shot Mandate
Mr. Woods received a reminder about the Flu Shot requirement for students in PreK and K.
Please read the condensed notes below. If you have questions please see Mr. Guzman, Alba or                Mr. Woods and please
do not wait until December 31st!

Flu Shots for all children under the age of 5. (attached – pages 8 & 9  Article 43.17 ( a2B, a2C, a2D)  This change is in addition to the existing requirements for DTaP (diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and pertussis vaccine), polio, MMR (measles-mumps-rubella), varicella, and hepatitis vaccines. In order for children to attend your program, proof of immunization is required. Similar to other vaccination requirements, please work with your families on completing all of their vaccination requirements.
Q1 – How do I notify parents of this mandate?
A1 –  Most families were notified about the flu shot requirement at time of enrollment since the flu shot is on the schedule for yearly required physicals for children ages 6 mos – 59 mos.  (Item 11)  .   Physicians were notified by the DOHMH.  The attached memo can be found on the DOHMH website as well and can be modified and sent out  as a reminder to the parents of any child not yet in compliance.  By January 1st, most of your kindergarten children will be 60+ mos of age and are no longer under this mandate.
Q2 – What happens if a parent requests a medical exemption?
A2 -  Print and give the parent the medical exemption form.  It must be filled out and signed by a physician.   NYC schools with PKFA and 3K must keep a copy of the medical exemption request  on file and submit the completed paperwork to  NYC DOE.
Q3 – What happens if students do not have the flu shot by January 1, 2019 and do not have a medical exemption request, signed by a physician, on file.
A3 -   Schools are to exclude these children.  The DOHMH can issue violations and fines to the school for each instance of non-compliance with this mandate.  We continue to monitor this mandate to insure that it is being fairly enforced in all PKFA/3K programs.  If the exclusion requirement changes,  we will be sure to send out a follow-up email.  Based on a conversation with the DOHMH on Friday,  we anticipate that the inspectors will be told to issue violations for children under the age of 5 years who are present in school and lack flu shot documentation.

Advent like Lent is a time of Preparation
Why not think of preparing for Christmas like you do for Lent by giving up something?
Think about turning off some form of media daily for a period of time make a time daily where you don't look at any social media,
e-mail and take that time to calm yoursewlf down before the Christmas rush.
Just think how much better your life would be if you turned off the phone for one hour, maybe two hours a day or definitely turning it off when going to bed so that you don't hear the bings of text messages, e-mails etc. all night.
Think how much calmer you will be when Christmas comes having avoiding some of the nonsense that bombards us daily.
