Moglia Family Fund

Capital Improvement Programs

As many parent know last year air conditioning units were placed in the school auditorium. The funding for that was received from the
Moglia family whose five children attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School. This year the Moglia family as you may recently noticed given funds for the painting and the refurbishing of the Chruch interior.
We as a parish community are grateful to the Moglia children for their kindness to both our Church and school community.
Please remember to keep their family in your prayers.

New York State ELA Test Grades 3-8

The week of April 1, 2019 begins the testing for all students in grades 3-8 on the New York State ELA test based on the new Common Core Standards.
This year, like last year, the time limit has been lifted so that students may work at their own pace. Also a new company was employed by the New York State Education Department to design the test. Parents are reminded that testing is part and parcel of life.

Would you want your child's doctor not to have taken a
medical exam and passed?

Testing at the elementary level is just one measure of student success and should not be a cause célèbre ( an issue or incident arousing widespread controversy) like it has been made into the last couple of years. Testing, classroom participation, teacher made tests, a child's ability to make a classroom presentation etc. are the things that measure what a child knows.
The NYS tests should assist parents in knowing what academic areas their child excels in and what areas are in need of improvement- period.

NYS Math tests will be administered May 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Parents are requested to make sure their child goes to bed early, gets breakfast in the morning and encourage them to do well on the tests.
The media hysteria can only cease if parents encourage their child to do their very best and they are fine with whatever success they achieve.
Results will be available to parents upon return to school in September.

Robotics Program

A robotics program  began last Friday with students in Grade 6 as part of the science curriculum.
The program will expand to other grades along with expanding to the After School program  after the initial kinks are worked out.
The program has been provided by the
Manhattan Regional Board of Directors.

 Online Programs to Assist Students

Edgenity and Success Maker are two programs that we are presently using to assist students.
These programs are based on MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) reports that were received in September and January.
Students in Grades K, 1 5, 6, 7 & 8 will use the program Edgenuity which bases the child's work on an action plan that was designed based on the child's scores on both the tests.
Students will be using the program in school and should be using the program at leats 3 times a week for 20 minutes.
The Sucess Maker program wil be used for
students in grades 2, 3 and 4.
Teachers will be sending home login and password
information this week.
Mr. Woods has been informed that many KIndergarten and First Grade students are not doing Freckle or any other online component of the Ready Gen Reading program by the classroom teachers.
Please see the teachers if you are unsure how these programs impact your child's success in school.

Monday April 1, 2019
As a reminder -- re-registration is due by April 15th otherwise the fee goes up to $ 250.00 per child. Please check with Alba if you are uncertain if you have re-registered for September.
